Fact File: Triple Trapeze

Activity Centre in Surrey | Triple TrapezeSurrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) is an AHOEC GOLD accredited outdoor learning provider that offers adults and young people alike the opportunity to learn, develop, and flourish through residential or day experiences. We offer a wide range of outdoor activities across our three Surrey and London centres, and are starting a series highlighting a few of these to highlight their benefits for learning and development. This week's spotlight is on the Triple Trapeze at High Ashurst, our activity centre in Surrey that is near Dorking.

What is the Triple Trapeze?

The Triple Trapeze is a challenge that stands high off the ground, where participants must climb 10 metres to a platform before making a leap to the trapeze bar. They are then brought safely to the ground where they receive a hero's welcome for their achievement!

A boy hanging upside down after participating in the Triple Trapeze at our activity centre in SurreyHigh Ashurst boasts one of only a few triple person trapezes in the UK; while a narrow trapeze offers a great individual challenge, we value cooperation and teamwork and wish to provide a shared bonding experience by allowing visitors to participate in groups of three.

Participants are gently encouraged to push their boundaries, but are not pressured; ultimately the final choice is down to the individual, and they will have achieved something to be proud of, no matter how far they make it up (or down!) the pole.

The Triple Trapeze at High Ashurst is even surrounded by floodlights, meaning that groups can learn in any season and give it a go even when the nights draw in earlier during the winter months!

What are the Benefits?

The Triple Trapeze activity can benefit participants in a number of ways, including physically, emotionally, and socially:

  • Courage is needed to face the challenge of the Triple Trapeze, making it an excellent exercise in resolve, determination, and emotional resilience
  • Participants will receive encouragement and support from their instructor and teammates, and the shared experience makes for a good team building activity
  • Excellent for personal development; participants have the opportunity to face their fears, or address why heights scare them, and how these feelings can be mitigated
  • Taking part in the Triple Trapeze leads to a sense of accomplishment, as well as a self-esteem and confidence boost
  • Contribute to individuals' understanding of risk, their assessment of various situations, and their decision-making skills
