Volunteering with SOLD

Are you looking for a volunteering opportunity in your spare time, get into the outdoors, meet new people whilst making a positive difference to your local community? How about becoming an estates management volunteer at Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD)? Come along as a group or come along on your own and meet new people, the choice is yours.

Types of work to be carried out: include cutting back and clearing of overgrown areas, small tree clearance, hedge cutting, strimming, wood chipping and wood splitting.

When and where: Various dates throughout the year at High Ashurst in Mickleham, Dorking and Henley Fort in Guildford between 9.30 and 4pm - see available dates below.

Requirements: Volunteers should be a minimum of 18 years old (16 yrs old with parental consent), physically fit and happy to work in the outdoors. Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adult's, therefore volunteers must share this commitment. This volunteering role will require an enhanced DBS check. Full details in application form.

What to wear: Warm outdoor clothing, sturdy boots, waterproofs during wet weather, if you wish, bring your own work gloves which may be more suitable/comfortable.

Equipment and training: All tools, materials, safety equipment and gloves will be provided, although you may choose to bring your own gloves. There will always be 1 or 2 SOLD staff with volunteers and all machinery will be operated by SOLD staff, however training can be given for regular volunteers.

Refreshments: SOLD will supply you with tea, coffee, juices and water, but volunteers will need to provide own lunch.


Volunteering Application Form

Please complete an application form. Once this has been received, SOLD will be in touch to arrange a visit to the centre for an informal chat and look around. If you are successful, and all references and checks are satisfactory, dates and times will be discussed.

There can be flexibility with dates so if an individual or group wishes to volunteer on alternative dates, please do email outdoor.learning@surreycc.gov.uk with their proposed date/s.

Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development is a not for profit organisation and any surplus is reinvested back into services for young people in Surrey.
