SOLD supports local charity turning bedsheets into scrubs for the NHS

Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) have been thrilled to support a local sewing group who are turning bedlinens into scrubs, scrub bags, face masks and more for NHS hospitals and GP practices as well as care homes in Surrey.

During the COVID-19 lockdowns, the lovely group of people at Sewing4Good came together to sew and raise money for local charities. They started making scrubs and scrub bags mainly with recycled fabrics and have gone on to also produce masks, ear savers, hats and masks. Some items can be purchased by the general public, with proceeds being distributed to local charities. So far, they have raised over £6000.

Scrubs team

With quite a number of old sheets to dispose of, SOLD sought a sustainable option to dispose of them and donating to the Sewing4Good groups was a perfect recycling opportunity to create much needed clothing to frontline staff during the pandemic.

Within 48 hours of SOLD donating their sheets, the fabric had been dyed, cut and repurposed into trousers in the scrub sets handmade by the group . The plain trousers were then teamed up with Rupert Bear tops (which started out as a duvet) and are now being used by the Neo-Natal ward at St Peter's Hospital.

Scrubs

They have also teamed up using the rainbow patterned fabric designed by Chris Evan's 10 year old son, Noah and staff at Liberty. Through his charitable and sponsored events, Noah was able to produce 100,000m of the fabric and the Sewing4Good team were fortunate enough to receive several rolls of the fabric to use for their scrubs which they have teamed up with plain trousers using the SOLD sheet fabric.
